The Federal Government has launched the sale of 50kg bags of rice at ₦40,000 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of efforts to ease the socioeconomic challenges caused by the removal of fuel subsidies.
At the flag-off ceremony, Governor Dapo Abiodun announced that the initiative would soon expand to include other subsidized food items like garri, rice, and beans across the 20 local government areas of the state.
The program aims to reach grassroots communities and support civil servants, market women, artisans, and various organizations.
The governor assured equitable distribution through a structured template managed by the Ogun State government and the National Security Adviser’s office, emphasizing transparency with payment via Point of Sale (PoS) systems and physical verification using the National Identity Number (NIN).
Governor Abiodun praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to addressing food inflation and urged beneficiaries to follow the sales timetable to maintain order at the distribution points.
