The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has emphasized his administration’s dedication to addressing lapses in Abuja to promote efficient development.
Speaking at a media parley in his office in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike highlighted significant progress made in transforming the nation’s capital, particularly in infrastructure development and education.
Wike announced that 75 kilometers of roads across the six Council Areas of the FCT will be commissioned before December 2024. This development aims to improve the movement of goods and services within the capital. He also assured that his administration is committed to enhancing the quality of education by engaging qualified teachers for FCT schools.
On security, the Minister praised the efforts of security agencies in addressing the challenges facing the FCT, noting that security has significantly improved under his leadership. He also discussed the complexities of mass transit in Abuja, stating that the government plans to collaborate with private entities to develop effective transportation strategies.
When questioned about his political relevance in Rivers State, Wike stated that his primary focus is on revitalizing the FCT, expressing indifference to political dynamics at the state level. He also reaffirmed his membership in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), despite his role in an administration led by a different political party.
Wike’s remarks underscore his administration’s commitment to fostering development and addressing key challenges in the nation’s capital.
