Elon Musk has indicated a full reconciliation with President Donald Trump after confirming that he recently had dinner with the president and First Lady, Melania Trump, months after a highly publicised political and personal fallout between the two men.
The Tesla and SpaceX chief disclosed the meeting in a post on X on Tuesday, writing that he had “a lovely dinner” with President Trump and the First Lady, and adding that “2026 is going to be amazing.” The post directly tagged both Donald Trump and Melania Trump.
The dinner, which took place at Mar-a-Lago in January 2026, followed months of open hostility that began in mid-2025 when Musk publicly criticised Trump’s major tax and spending package, popularly referred to as the One Big Beautiful Bill. Musk had described the legislation as a “disgusting abomination,” a remark that prompted a sharp reaction from the president.
As the disagreement escalated, Trump said he was “very disappointed in Elon” and warned that Musk’s companies could lose government contracts and subsidies. Musk responded by accusing Trump of ingratitude and made a series of provocative posts, including comments linking the president to the Jeffrey Epstein files, further intensifying the feud.
The tone later shifted when Musk publicly moderated his stance. In a subsequent post on X, he acknowledged that his comments about Trump had gone too far and expressed regret over the escalation. Trump welcomed the apology, telling reporters that he thought “it was very nice that he did that.”
That exchange marked a turning point in their strained relationship and appeared to open the door to reconciliation. The recent dinner, now publicly confirmed by Musk, suggests that both men have moved beyond the dispute.
In another post reflecting their renewed rapport, Musk shared a photo of himself with Trump and wrote that “2026 will be spectacular,” underscoring a dramatic turnaround from one of the most prominent political and business feuds of 2025 and signalling a reset as the new year begins.
