EFCC Arrests Ex-Zamfara Governor Yari

Date:

Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested ex-governor of Zamfara State, Abdul’aziz Yari.

Reports within the agency suggest that Yari was arrested for his alleged role in the N84 billion fraud involving a one-time Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmad Idris.

Yari was said to have been arrested on Sunday evening for allegedly bagging home a whopping N22 billion from the N84 billion which the former Accountant General paid to a man identified as Akindele.

Sources also say the anti-graft agency also arrested another man (Anthony Yaro) who is the Chairman and Managing Director of Finex Professional — the company that helped Governor Yari with the funds.

Yari’s arrest comes barely a day after he secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to contest for a senatorial district seat in the Zamfara National Assembly. He had gotten the ticket unopposed, an exercise that was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and some security agencies in the state.
