Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has ordered the immediate suspension of Dr. Caulson Oahimire, Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, over allegations of financial impropriety and official misconduct.
In a statement issued Tuesday by Secretary to the State Government Umar Ikhilor, the government directed the agency’s most senior official to assume leadership pending investigations by a newly constituted special committee.
“The Executive Governor has ordered the immediate suspension of Dr. Oahimire following serious allegations of financial and official infractions,” the statement read. “A senior staff member will oversee operations while a special committee investigates these claims.”
The suspension comes as Governor Okpebholo’s administration intensifies its anti-corruption drive across state agencies. No specific details about the alleged infractions were disclosed, but government sources suggest they involve mismanagement of healthcare funds.
The Primary Healthcare Development Agency plays a critical role in managing Edo’s rural health centers and immunization programs. This abrupt leadership change follows closely on recent controversies surrounding healthcare service delivery in some local government areas.
Political analysts note this marks Governor Okpebholo’s first major disciplinary action against a top appointee since assuming office. The administration has pledged to announce committee members and investigation timelines within 48 hours.
