The Delta State Police Command has arraigned 30 suspects arrested during an intelligence-led enforcement operation carried out across identified criminal hotspots in the Asaba metropolis.
The suspects were among 202 persons arrested during the operation, which targeted black spots, brothels and suspected illicit drug dens based on intelligence gathered by the State Intelligence Department.
Police said 172 of those arrested were screened and released unconditionally after preliminary investigations.
One suspect, identified as the proprietor of a brothel in Asaba, was arraigned on charges of allegedly operating a brothel and procuring women and girls for prostitution, while the remaining 29 suspects were charged with offences including conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and possession of illicit drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that all lawful arrests are followed by diligent investigation and prosecution where sufficient evidence exists.
He also warned operators of criminal hideouts and other unlawful establishments to desist from activities that threaten public peace, stressing that the Command will sustain intelligence-led operations to rid the state of criminal elements.
