COURT ORDERS NIS TO PAY N2M FOR REFUSING TO RELEASE PETER ODILI’S INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT.

Date:

Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to pay the sum of two million naira for refusing to release the international passport of former Rivers State governor, Peter Odili.

Justice Inyang Ekwo while ruling on  the application made by Odili’s lawyer Ifedayo Adedipe, bereted the Agency’s lawyer, Malami Adamu for his disregard to the Court’s Order to produce the Defendant’s passport, as well as careless abandonment of the court processes filed by them.

He said the Immigration Services had reasonable and ample opportunity to comply with the orders of the court but refused to comply.

Justice Ekwo therefore, ordered payment of two million naira as cost against the Agency and directed that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, take disciplinary actions against Malami Adamu before the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee.
