Court Adjourns Ruling on Yahaya Bello’s Bail Application to December 10

Date:

The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned until December 10 to deliver a ruling on the bail application filed by the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, and two co-defendants.

Bello, alongside Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, faces a 16-count charge brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged involvement in a ₦110 billion fraud.

The defendants were arraigned before Justice Maryanne Anenih, where they all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

After the arraignment, counsel to the first defendant, Joseph Daudu (SAN), filed a motion for bail on behalf of Bello, arguing that the application, submitted on November 22, was still valid.

He also emphasized that the motion was supported by an affidavit and a written address.

However, EFCC counsel Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) opposed the application, asserting that the earlier bail application had expired in October.

Justice Anenih clarified that the court would consider the arguments and deliver its decision on December 10.

Meanwhile, the judge ordered that the defendants remain in the custody of the EFCC pending the ruling.

The EFCC accused Bello and his co-defendants of conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and unlawful possession of property. The charges include allegations of misappropriating state funds to acquire properties and other assets.
