The Kwara State Police Command has arrested popular but controversial musician Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, better known as Portable, following a formal petition filed by Fuji music star Okunola Saheed (Osupa). The arrest, which occurred on Saturday evening in Abeokuta, Ogun State, stems from serious allegations including criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, and conduct likely to breach public peace.
According to police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrest was executed after obtaining a valid warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin. Portable was apprehended at approximately 7:25 PM on April 13, 2025, and immediately transported to Kwara State for interrogation. His statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties before being remanded in custody pending arraignment.
The dispute began when Portable allegedly used Osupa’s signature lyrical phrases in a derogatory manner during a social media outburst, followed by a series of insulting remarks directed at the Fuji icon. Though Portable later issued a public apology, attributing his behavior to a short temper, Osupa’s legal team proceeded with formal complaints citing repeated harassment and potential threats to the artist’s safety and reputation.
The Kwara Police Command emphasized its commitment to due process, stating: “We remain steadfast in upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice is served transparently.” Portable faces multiple charges that could result in significant legal consequences if convicted.
This incident marks another chapter in Portable’s history of public controversies, which have previously involved physical altercations, social media feuds, and legal troubles. Meanwhile, Osupa’s decision to pursue legal action rather than settle privately reflects growing intolerance within Nigeria’s entertainment industry for unchecked personal attacks among artists.
