Nigeria’s representative in the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Rivers United will face Young Africans of Tanzania in the quarter finals of the Confederation cup.
The draw was conducted on Wednesday night at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
According to the draw, the Pride of Rivers will host the first leg in Nigeria on April 23rd, 2023 before playing the second leg one week later in Tanzania.
The reverse fixture will be held a week later at the Benjamin Nkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
Rivers United will be hoping to be the first Nigerian side to win CAF’s second tier club competition.
Meanwhile, Rivers United goalkeeper, Victor Sochima, has expressed confidence in the ability of the team to progress in the competition.
“For us to be here, it shows the work we have put in and it’s something to be proud of in Nigeria. We are champions of our league and at this stage of the competition, we already know we are bound to face any team. Now that we know our opponents, we will be prepared and I am sure they have our respect too.”
Stanley Eguma’s side will be playing at this stage of the competition for the first time in their history.
They finished second in their group with 10 points from six matches, behind ASEC Mimosas, who were drawn against US Monastir of Tunisia.
The last quarter-finals draw in the competition will see USM Alger trade tackle with AS FAR Rabat of Morocco.
