Following their screening and ratification by the Nigerian Senate, President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday swore in 7 new Ministers and assigned them portfolios.
The swearing-in comes seven months before the 2023 presidential election in the country.
President Buhari also administered an oath of office to the newly appointed ministers, and the ministers took the oath of office before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council held at the Council Chamber.
The newly-appointed ministers are: Umana Okon Umana (Akwa Ibom) — Minister of Niger Delta Affairs; Ikoh Henry Ikechukwu (Abia) — Minister of State, Science and Technology; Umar Ibrahim El-Yakubu (Kano) — Minister of State, Works and Housing; Goodluck Nanah Opiah (Imo) — Minister of State Education; Ekumankama Joseph Nkamah (Ebonyi) — Minister of Health; Odum Udi (Rivers) — Minister of State Environment; and Ademola Adegoroye (Ondo) — Minister of State, Transportation.
The president also reshuffled his cabinet: Olorunimbe Mamora now serves as the Minister of Science and Technology; Sharon Ikeazor takes over from Rotimi Amaechi as Minister of Transportation, and Gbemi Saraki now serves as the Minister of State Mines and Steel.
Addressing the new ministers, President Buhari congratulated them and urged them to put in their best in their various positions. He also advised them to seek wise counsel and cooperate with permanent secretaries in their various capacities.
A minute silence was observed to honour the outgoing Secretary-General of OPEC, Mohammed Barkindo, who passed away on Tuesday evening, hours after meeting with President Buhari at the state house in Abuja.
