BREAKING: Ogun REC, Niyi Ijalaye Slumps, Dies After INEC Meeting in Abuja

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun State, Barrister ‘Niyi Ijalaye, has passed away.

According to reports, Barrister Ijalaye slumped and died on Monday evening in Abuja after attending a meeting with other RECs at the Commission’s headquarters.

Sources at the Ogun State INEC office, speaking anonymously, revealed that Barrister Ijalaye was lively during the meeting but collapsed after returning to his hotel room.

The meeting, chaired by INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu, focused on upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, as well as vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.

Barrister Ijalaye, an Ondo State native, was posted to Ogun State as REC in March 2022, following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State.
