The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to officially charge a presidential aspirant and ex-governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Rochas Okorocha, who is currently representing Imo West senatorial district in the National Assembly, will be prosecuted in the nation’s capital on Monday by Justice Inyang Ekwo, and will be tried on a 17-count charge amounting to an estimated N2.9 billion filed against him by the EFCC.
Rochas is accused of stealing from public funds with a group of co-conspirators including some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and five companies. His arraignment comes just three days after failing in his bid to be granted bail, pending the judgement of the suit he had incurred against the Federal Government.
The former governor has been in the anti-graft agency’s custody since Tuesday last week after officials of the EFCC dramatically stormed his residence in the Maitama area of Abuja to arrest him.
