The replacement for outgoing Boris Johnson will be announced on September 5 according to the ruling Conservative party on Monday, with at least 11 aspirants currently vying for the position.
The tussle began last week when Johnson was forced to exit the seat after a series of over 50 resignations from his government, in a bid to take a stand against his scandals.
The influential 1922 Committee of non-ministerial Tory MPs in parliament on Monday released a timetable for the party’s leadership election, TimesNow News reported.
According to the committee, nominations will officially open and close on Tuesday, and the winner will be installed when the parliament returns from the summer break on September 5.
To hasten the process, candidates must have a minimum of 20 MPs backing them to be qualified to enter the race as opposed to the usual eight, and candidates who fail to get the support of 30 MPs in the first ballot will be eliminated.
