Lawmakers reject bill to allow Nigerians sue Govt.

The House of Representatives has rejected a Bill to allow citizens to drag the Government to Court for failing to provide Social Welfare.

The Bill sought to justify the fundamental objectives contained in some sections of the constitution.

The Bill which was sponsored by Sergius Ogun from Edo State was rejected by the lawmakers.

Meanwhile, speaking against the Bill, Herman Hembe from Benue State said the Bill is seeking to make Nigeria a socialist State, noting socialism has never worked anywhere.

AKWA IBOM STATE HEALTH COMMISSIONER WARNS AGAINST NEW WAVE OF COVID-19.

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Professor Augustine Umoh has urged Akwa Ibomites and its residents to take precautions against the fourth wave of Covid-19 virus emerging in some European Countries.

The Commissioner made this known during the Ministry’s 2022 Budget Defense in Uyo, noting that the State is ready to counter any trace of the wave that may come in.

Professor Umoh further stated that the Ibom Molecular Laboratory has completed its registration and now conducts tests for foreign travelers.

Akpabio Charges Privileged Nigerians.

Minister, Niger Delta Affairs Ministry, Senator Godswill Akpabio has called on privileged individuals in the society to emulate the philanthropy gesture of the music icon, David Adedeji Adeleke – a.k.a Davido, and join hands with him in his quest at making life meaningful for the poor in the society.

Akpabio made the call while receiving on Courtesy, the music icon in his Abuja residence.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Jackson Udom, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State commended Davido on the N250 Million Humanitarian Donations to the less privileged in the society.

Akpabio used the visit to call on other well-meaning members of the society to emulate the music icon and called on other privileged individuals in business, politics and entertainment to emulate the music icon.

ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY, IN ONDO SHUT DOWN, INDEFINITELY.

The Management of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, Akoko in Ondo State has shut down the Institution indefinitely following violent protest by the students over the ‘No School Fees, No Examination’ policy by the Management of the Institution.

A statement by the Registrar of the Institution, Mr. Olugbenga Arujulu announced the indefinite closure of the institution last night.

Arujulu urged the students to vacate their halls of residence with immediate effect.

Plans by the Authorities of the Institution to enforce the “No School Fees No Examination” policy yesterday sparked off a Protest with the irate students, chanting various solidarity songs, barricading the Owo-Ikare Expressway which stalled business and economic activities in the university.

SON OF LATE COMIC ACTOR, BABA SUWE, APOLOGISES FOR COMMENTS MADE AFTER FATHER’S DEATH.

Adesola Omidina, a son of the late veteran Nigerian Comic Actor, Baba Suwe, has apologised to the members of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria; and Nigerians over his comments after his father died yesterday.

The young man who is also an actor, in a video that has gone viral, showed his father’s corpse, while claiming that friends and colleagues of the late actor abandoned him in his time of need. 

Retracting his statement, the Omidina via his Instagram page denounced and condemned the video which according to him has been wrongly posted.

He noted that the Nollywood, Tampan, the Government, Prophets, Family and Fans have been supportive in their own ways.

FINALLY, ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS FIXES DATE FOR PARTY CONVENTION.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved February 2022 for the conduct of the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This followed a meeting he had with some of the Governors of the Party led by Chairman of APC National Caretaker Committee and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.

Speaking to correspondents after the meeting which took place in the President’s office, Chairman, Progressives Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, said the meeting was to convey the decision of Sunday night meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum to the President.

Bagudu confirmed that President Buhari had approved it, noting that the national caretaker committee will work out the details.

WEST AFRICAN EXAMINATION COUNCIL RELEASES 2021 WASSCE RESULT, HIKES EXAM FEES.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has increased registration fees for school candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from N13, 950 to N18, 000, beginning from 2022.

WAEC Head of National Office (HNO), Patrick Areghan, made this known while announcing the release of results of the 2021 WASSCE for school candidates on Monday in Lagos.

Areghan said the increment was due to un-abating spiral inflation in the country, worsened devastating effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The WAEC boss noted that a part of the new fees would go into remunerations enhancement for the various examination functionaries with effect from 2022 as approved by the council’s Governing Board.

SUDAN’S MILITARY REINSTATES OUSTED CIVILIAN PRIME MINISTER ABDALLA HAMDOK.

Sudan’s ousted Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has been reinstated following last month’s coup when he was put under house arrest.

He was seen on television signing a new power-sharing agreement with coup leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan amid continuing mass protests.

But the civilian coalition that nominated Hamdok as Prime Minister two years ago has refused to acknowledge any new deal.

The pact had been struck with a gun to his head.

NAPOLI FORWARD OSIMHEN TO UNDERGO SURGERY AFTER SUFFERING FRACTURED EYE SOCKET

Napoli FC has revealed that Victor Osimhen has been diagnosed with a fractured eye socket and cheekbone and will undergo surgery in Milan after a clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar.

Following the clash of heads, Osimhen was visibly swollen around the left eye and cheekbone, and was able to walk off the pitch, although clearly dazed.

He was immediately taken to the San Raffaele Hospital for tests, which showed multiple displaced fractures of the left cheekbone and orbital bone.

Initial reports suggest that Osimhen could be out of action for at least a month and it is devastating news, especially as Osimhen is also set to leave Napoli in January to play for Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Nevertheless, Osimhen is their top scorer this season with five Serie A goals and four in the Europa League.

PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI SET TO DECLARE OPEN INDEPENDENT CORRUPT PRACTICES AND OTHER RELATED OFFENCES COMMISSION SUMMIT ON PUBLIC SECTOR CORRUPTION.

The third National Summit on ‘Diminishing Corruption in the Public Sector,’ organized by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will be declared open on November 30 by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The event will hold at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja, with the theme, ‘Corruption and Cost of Governance: New Imperatives for Fiscal Transparency’.

The ICPC spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, said the President would also recognize and confer on two public servants the ‘2021 Public Service Integrity Award’ while a private citizen would also be recognized as the ‘Citizen’s Anti-Corruption Volunteer Group Icon.’

Meanwhile, the keynote address will be delivered by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, on the theme: ‘Corruption and Cost of Governance; New Imperatives for Fiscal Transparency.
