SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION TO COMMENCE REGULATORY FEE ON FIXED INCOME TRANSACTIONS JANUARY 1

Nigeria’s Apex Capital Market Regulator, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), will commence charging regulatory fee on fixed income secondary market transactions with effect from January 1, 2022.

In a circular released by SEC, stated that the commencement of regulatory fee on bonds and other fixed-income transactions on the secondary market, is pursuant to Section 13(U) of the Investments and Securities Act (ISA), 2007 and Schedule 1, part D of the SEC Rules (Registration Fees, Minimum Capital Requirements, Securities and others.

These rules empower the SEC to levy, among others, fees on transactions relating to investments and securities business in Nigeria.

The circular stated that the regulatory fee structure on secondary market transactions on bonds will take effect from January 1, 2022 and secondary market transactions on bonds shall include bond transactions executed on a securities exchange, reported by voice or by any other means to an exchange as having being transacted thereon or of which the information of the transaction details are featured on the exchange’s platform for purposes including but not limited to onward transmission to a depository for settlement, price discovery and corporate disclosure.

The Commission stated that the circular supersedes previous directives given by it on the subject.

Also, SEC directed all Capital Market Operators (CMOS) and the general public that the annual renewal of registration of CMOS for the year 2022 will commence from January 1, 2022 and are to complete the process of renewal of registration for 2022 on or before January 31, 2022 through the renewal of registration portal.

NORTHERN GOVERNORS FELICITATES WITH PRESIDENT BUHARI @ 79

The Northern Governors Forum has felicitated with President Muhammadu Buhari on his 79th Birthday.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong in a statement described the President as a man of integrity and leader with patriotic zeal to develop the nation and secure the future for the younger generation.

Governor Lalong said the President has in the last six years confronted very many challenging situations that sought to threaten the unity and peace of the country such as insecurity, poverty, corruption, and poor infrastructure among others, with high successes.

He said the President has remained a father to all by embracing all parts of the nation and ensuring that projects are distributed to all zones irrespective of political and other considerations, a situation which speaks volumes of his penchant for justice and fairness.

Governor Lalong said the Northern Governors Forum has enjoyed support from the President in dealing with challenges such as insecurity, poverty, illiteracy and disease which are being substantially contained due to the synergy between the States and the Federal Government.

While wishing the President many more years of good health and wisdom, the Northern Governors urged him to remain steadfast and committed to giving his best in the service of the nation especially at this time when the government is working hard to deal with several challenges.

PRESIDENT BUHARI ORDERES RELEASE OF WITHHELD SALARIES OF HEALTH WORKERS.

President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Finance, Budget and National Planning Minister Zainab Ahmed to release the withheld salaries of Health workers, including doctors, whose salaries were seized while enforcing the no-work, no-pay policy.

Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige, confirmed the development while answering questions from State House reporters in Abuja.

He said the President has since approved the authority letter to release the funds of the resident doctors for September and October 2021.

According to Ngige, the approval covers members of the Joint Health Services Union (JOHESU) who went on strike in 2018.

OBI CUBANA PROMISES LOW HOUSING SCHEME ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

In support of some identified senior citizens who are in dire need of accommodation, the Chairman of Cubana Group, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana says he will build low cost housing for charity across the six geopolitical zones of the Country who have no roof over their heads.

Iyiegbu made the promise while receiving the 2021 Man of The Year Award presented to him by Igbere TV, Leadership Excellence Award on Thursday in Abuja.

He also promised to complete the low cost housing project before the end of 2022, adding that the honour was an encouragement for him to do more especially in the areas of youth empowerment, humanitarian gestures as well as mentorship of young Nigerian.

Federal Executive Council Approves Upward Review Of Salaries For Nigeria Police Force.

The Federal Executive Council has approved 20 per cent upward review of the salaries of the Nigeria Police Force personnel with effect from January 2022.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, disclosed this to newsmen at the end of the virtual Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The minister explained that the increased remuneration was a result of the demands of youths during the EndSARS protests that rocked the country in October 2020.

Part of the demands made by the protesters was the upward review of the salaries and increased welfare for police personnel.

HUMANITARIAN MINISTER APPLAUDS REVIEW OF NATIONAL SOCIAL PROTECTION POLICY.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq has commended the review of the National Social Protection Policy. (2017-2020)

The Minister gave the commendation in Abuja, Nigeria at a forum to discuss the draft revised National Social Protection Policy.

Umar Farouq stated that social protection is at the forefront of the development agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration, given its positive social and economic impact and its ramification and life cycle effect on Human Capital Development.

Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba restated that the Ministry of Budget and National Planning in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Justice and the four un-agencies supporting social protection led by the Ilo have also developed a draft harmonized bill for social protection, aimed at institutionalizing Social Protection Programmes in Nigeria in addition to the implementation, monitoring and evaluation framework.

The draft according to him will be passed through the National Assembly for legislative processes after it has been subjected to critical scrutiny by all stakeholder MDAs who’s legal advisers are already working with the technical working group.

The Ministers of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social, Labour and Employment, Health, Education and some other key agencies reviewed the process that eventually produced the draft on the revised national social protection policy.

PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI VOWS TO KEEP NIGERIA’S PLEDGES WITH ECOWAS PARLIAMENT.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated that Nigeria will keep pledges made to the ECOWAS Parliament, and to the sub-regional body at large.

The President made this known at the State House, Abuja, while receiving a team from ECOWAS Parliament, led by the speaker, Dr Sidie Mohammed Tunis.

He commended the Parliament for planning to fill its positions subsequently through elections, which would be incorporated into general elections of member countries, noting that it would be cost effective.

On the construction of a Parliament building in Abuja, President Buhari said he was pleased that the body was collaborating with the minister of federal capital territory.

The speaker, Tunis expressed sympathy to the Government and people of Nigeria on the recent losses from terror attacks; saying Nigeria was resilient to defeat the terrorists.

He also applauded Nigeria for its many supports to the ECOWAS Parliament, informing that the plan is now to strengthen the body through electing its officials rather than their being appointed.

He added that the vision for a Parliament building in Abuja is that it would be completed before May, 2023, so that President Buhari would commission it before leaving office.

CHELSEA DUO KANTE AND CHALOBAH RETURNS TO FULL TRAINING AFTER INJURY.

Chelsea duo of N’Golo Kante and Trevoh Chalobah have returned to full training for the London side after sitting out for a couple of weeks due to knee and hamstring problems respectively.

Thomas Tuchel was handed the boost ahead of Thursday’s visit of Everton.

Both players have been regular starters this season and have also found the back of the net.

Kante last featured in Chelsea’s 4-0 Champions League home victory against Juventus in November while Chalobah’s was the 2-1 league victory over Watford.
