Six law students kidnapped along the Benue-Taraba border while traveling to the Nigerian Law School in Adamawa State have been rescued by the Benue State Police Command.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Udeme Edet, confirmed their release in a statement on Friday, noting that the students, who had departed from Anambra State, were intercepted by kidnappers on July 26, 2025, while en route to the Yola campus of the Nigerian Law School.
“Please be informed that the police have successfully rescued six law students of the Yola campus, who were abducted on July 26, 2025, while traveling from Anambra State to Adamawa State,” the statement read.
“They have been safely released and united with their families this morning, August 1, 2025.”
The abduction had earlier been disclosed by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Afam Osigwe, during the NBA’s North-Central regional security summit held in Makurdi. Osigwe had decried the growing insecurity in the region, calling for urgent reforms to protect students and travelers.
Benue State has witnessed a wave of violent crimes and kidnappings in recent years, particularly in border communities. The police did not disclose whether any arrests were made or if ransom was paid.
