Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed confidence in his re-election bid for the November 8, 2025, governorship election, stating that he has not seen any strong challenger capable of unseating him.
Speaking during a media chat to mark his third year in office on Monday, Soludo dismissed the notion of serious competition, asserting that his administration’s performance has earned the trust and support of Anambra residents. He emphasized that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), his political party, has delivered good governance and deserves another term.
“If there is an election, I mean there will be an election, and if I am a candidate, I will be on the ballot, and then I ask: who else is running? Which party is fielding a candidate? So far, unless the person will come down from somewhere, I have not heard of any,” Soludo said.
The governor noted that while Anambra voters may support different political parties in national elections, they remain loyal to APGA in governorship and local government polls. He attributed this loyalty to the party’s track record of development and service delivery.
Soludo also acknowledged calls from supporters urging him to seek a second term but clarified that the final decision rests with his party. “The party has to agree to it and give me the platform. For me, I applied for this job intentionally because I felt that’s my way of thanking God for His bountiful blessing—to spend the rest of my life serving and leaving this place better than I met it,” he said.
He added that if his party nominates him and the people of Anambra renew his mandate, it would be a great honor and privilege to continue serving the state.
Anambra is one of eight states in Nigeria where governorship elections are held off-cycle due to court rulings. The 2025 election is expected to be a significant political event, with Soludo positioning himself as the frontrunner based on his administration’s achievements and the perceived lack of strong opposition.
