Amazon will begin operations in Nigeria in 2023, in a bid to expand its operations to five more countries across Africa, South America, and Europe.
The American e-commerce giant, according to a report by Business Insider, would open a market in two African countries.
Currently operating in 20 countries, the project will ensure that Amazon establishes operations in Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Nigeria, and South Africa in April 2023.
The company will open its shop in all five countries, with access to Amazon’s fulfillment service called Fulfillment by Amazon.
Belgium is the only country among the five that would offer Amazon’s Prime membership program at launch, as the rest will not get it shortly after operations commence.
The emergence of Amazon in Nigeria’s e-commerce space will further heat up the competition in the sector that is currently being dominated by Jumia, Konga, and others.
