Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has presented a proposed budget of ₦955 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly. Titled the “Budget of Consolidation and Expansion,” the financial plan seeks to build on the gains of previous years while scaling up investments in critical infrastructure and economic growth initiatives.
Addressing the Assembly during Tuesday’s plenary, Governor Eno outlined the budget’s focus areas, which include industrialization, education, healthcare, and social welfare. He emphasized that the budget reflects his administration’s commitment to sustainable development and inclusive growth.
The proposed budget represents a 3% increase from the revised 2024 budget, with key projections based on an oil benchmark of $75 per barrel and an exchange rate of ₦1,400 to $1. Governor Eno explained that these parameters were carefully chosen to align with current economic realities while ensuring fiscal discipline.
The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, commended the governor for the comprehensive proposal and assured the legislature’s support for its timely passage. “This budget underscores a clear vision for our state’s progress, and we will work diligently to provide the necessary legislative backing,” Otong stated.
Highlights of the budget include provisions for key infrastructure projects, expanded agricultural programs, and targeted investments in education and healthcare. The administration aims to leverage these initiatives to drive job creation, enhance social services, and improve the quality of life for citizens.
Governor Eno also reiterated his commitment to transparency and accountability in the budget’s implementation, assuring stakeholders that every allocation would be directed towards achieving measurable outcomes.
The legislature is expected to commence detailed deliberations on the budget in the coming weeks, with an emphasis on ensuring alignment with the state’s development priorities.
