2027: Presidency May Use Courts to Derail ADC’s Momentum, David Mark Alleges

Date:

Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has raised concerns about alleged plans by the current administration to use the judiciary to hinder the party’s growing momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with the ADC’s National Legal Support Group, Mark warned that the party’s rising popularity could provoke legal challenges aimed at frustrating its progress.

“ADC is the party to beat in 2027. The current administration may attempt to use the courts to frustrate our momentum,” he said.

The National Legal Support Group, led by Abdullahi Abdurrahman, revealed that no fewer than 310 lawyers have volunteered to defend the ADC in all ongoing and future legal battles nationwide. The team is fully represented in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“We are prepared to handle any case that may arise against ADC anywhere in the country,” said Abdurrahman, adding that the legal team is confident in the current leadership’s ability to reposition the party and contribute meaningfully to national development.

The legal team includes notable figures such as the party’s Legal Adviser, Barrister Peter Oyewole; former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN); and legal scholar and former Edo State Governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.

Abdurrahman praised Senator Mark’s integrity and appealed to him to offer experienced guidance as the party seeks national prominence.

In response, Oyewole assured the legal team that all constitutional protocols regarding the recent coalition that restructured the party were duly followed, stating: “There is no cause for alarm.”

Senator Mark commended the team for their commitment and urged Nigerians to rally behind the ADC as a credible and patriotic alternative for national leadership.

With an expanding grassroots base and a robust legal structure, the ADC says it is fully prepared to defend its mandate and compete in the 2027 general elections.
